Setting Goals

Every year, you see or hear someone saying, “New year, new me!”  We all think this is pathetic and maybe a little stupid.  I mean, what’s the difference in one day?  However, why is it so stupid?  Why can’t we all make a little change?  The start of a new year is a perfect excuse to right your wrongs and start being who you really want to be.  This is the perfect time to set new goals and try new things.

Personally, I don’t like to set “resolutions” because every time I have tried, I have failed.  Instead, I like to think about new goals for the year that I would like to achieve.  I used to be someone who thought that the start of a new year was just another day, but now I see it as so much more.  I see it as an opportunity to try something new and to be the best me. The following are some of the goals I have set for myself this year.

1. Go on more adventures.

I set this goal for myself at the beginning of 2016, but didn’t exactly meet it. However, I want this year to be different.  I want to see more, experience more, and live more.  There are so many things even just around West Virginia that I have not seen that I really want to see. I want to go on hikes, see beautiful sunsets, and simply try new things.  I am not really an adventurous person, but I want to be.  I want to quit being someone who sticks to her comfort zone all the time.

2. Take more pictures/videos.

I have always been someone who loves pictures. I love having them and I also love looking at them.  I always see such cool pictures on the internet, and I question why I don’t capture my memories more often.  Therefore, that has become one of my main goals for 2017.  Video is also something that has recently grabbed my attention.  This is also something I see a lot of on the internet now, and I started to try to take more video later on in 2016, but it didn’t work out and I sort of forgot about it.  I want to take as many pictures and videos as I can this year while still living in the moment to capture the memories I am creating.

3. Work harder.

Honestly, I do work hard already when it comes to school.  However, other than that, I tend to get discouraged when things don’t turn out the way I plan.  This year, I plan to change that.  I want to be more determined and work as hard as I can to be successful in whatever it is I am doing.  Plus, you can always work harder, even if you’re working hard already.  I also want to learn not to settle by thinking I am working hard enough.

4. Grow closer to God.

This has been a goal of mine for many, many years now, and it will always be a goal.  Never settle for being “close enough.” You can always grow closer to Him, and that’s what I strive for.  Shouldn’t we all?

To sum this all up, I just wanted to say that setting goals and working hard to reach them is important.  Never settle for being “ok” with where you are.  Everyone should be happy with their life and everyone should want to be the best they can be.  That’s what I want to do this year.  I am so excited to see where 2017 will take me, and I’m ready for a new adventure.
